General Information
What are the different types of wigs?
At Sadie C Stone, we specialise in high-quality synthetic wigs. These are carefully crafted to look and feel natural, offering a lightweight, comfortable fit. Synthetic wigs are incredibly low maintenance – they hold their style even after washing, making them an easy and practical option for everyday wear. While there are other wig types available, like human hair, we believe that our premium synthetic wigs provide a reliable, beautiful solution that helps you feel confident and at ease.
Getting the right wig size
Choosing the correct wig size is key to ensuring both comfort and confidence. When your wig fits properly, it’ll feel secure and comfortable, helping you look and feel your best. If your wig is too big, it may slip, and if it’s too tight, it could cause discomfort, making it less likely that you’ll want to wear it. And we want you to feel fabulous in your wig!
For more specific sizing details, be sure to check the individual description for each wig to ensure it’s the
right fit for you.
When it comes to sizing, our most popular option is the Medium/Petite size, which is chosen by about 90% of our customers. This cap size has a circumference of 21.5″ (54.6 cm). Even if you don’t fall exactly within that measurement, don’t worry! All our wigs come with adjustable pull straps, giving you an extra 1″ (2.5 cm) of flexibility to either tighten or loosen the fit, ensuring a comfortable, snug feel on your scalp.
Wig sizing for beginners
When it comes to selecting the right wig size, it’s all about the cap circumference. Here’s a simple guide
to help you find the perfect fit:
- Petite: 21″ (53.3 cm)
- Medium/Petite: 21.5″ (54.6 cm)
- Medium: 22″ (55.8 cm)
- Large: 23″ (58.4 cm)
Remember, most of our wigs come with adjustable straps, so even if you’re between sizes, you can easily fine-tune the fit for comfort.
The best wigs for beginners and first-timers
If you’re new to wearing wigs, we recommend starting with something that closely matches your natural colour and style. This makes the transition smoother and helps you feel more comfortable while you adjust. A wig that mirrors your own hair will let you ease into wearing one, giving you the confidence to experiment with different looks later.
Once you’ve chosen your wig, you might also consider having it custom cut by your hairdresser. A tailored cut can highlight your facial features and give you a fresh, flattering look that feels just like ‘you’ again.
Lace front wigs
If you love to wear your hair pulled back or away from your face, a lace front wig is a fantastic option. The delicate lace front finish offers a natural, undetectable hairline, and you can part your hair wherever you like, creating a look that feels completely your own.
Lace front wigs are also an excellent choice for those experiencing complete hair loss. Many of our lace front wigs feature a non-slip poly strip discreetly sewn into the front of the cap, ensuring a secure and reliable fit day after day.
For the bold and creative wig wearer
If you love experimenting with new looks, hand-tied wigs are your perfect match! These wigs are crafted with individual hairs carefully tied to a soft mesh cap, giving you a comfy, super-soft fit. With no wefts or mechanical stitching, they mimic natural hair growth to perfection, even up close! So, feel free to play around with your wig’s style, as if it were your own hair – because it truly can be whatever you want it to be!
How to wear your wig for the perfect fit
Getting a comfy and secure fit is key when wearing a wig. If you have natural hair, a wig cap can help keep everything in place. To put on your wig, start by positioning it on your head and adjust the tabs on each side to make sure it fits snugly around your temples. The front of the wig should sit about four fingers above your eyebrows, in line with your natural hairline. If you need any help, we’re here to offer fitting, styling, and aftercare advice for all wig types!

Wig sizing guide from Sadie & Stone
At Sadie & Stone, we believe that just like when you’re choosing a new pair of shoes, getting the right size for your wig is key to achieving a comfortable, natural fit. Before purchasing from our stunning collection of wigs, the first step is to determine your correct wig measurements. This simple process will help ensure that your wig fits perfectly, giving you confidence and comfort from day one.
To help you along the way, we offer guidance on how to measure your head for a wig, along with an estimated size guide to assist you in finding the right fit. Our team is here to support you through every step, ensuring that you find a wig that’s just right for you.
How do I measure my head for a wig?
Measuring your head for a wig is simple and quick – just follow these three easy steps:
- Take a soft tape measure and start from the front of your hairline, measuring to just above your ears.
- Wrap the tape measure around your head to where your neck bends, just under the occipital bone (also known as the “Bone of Knowledge”).
- Finally, bring the tape measure back around to the front hairline where you started.
If you’re measuring on top of your natural hair, we recommend smoothing it down as much as possible to ensure you get the most accurate measurement.
With your measurements ready, you’ll be all set to find the perfect fit for your new wig!
How can I make my wig look natural?
Achieving a natural look with your wig is all about choosing a style and shade that feels like “you.” When you first try it on, consider using a wig cap to create a smooth base for a secure and natural fit. Adjust the wig’s position along your natural hairline, and gently blend in any baby hairs or wispy sideburns for a more authentic finish.
Experimenting with hair accessories – like headbands, scarves, or clips – can help personalise your look and make it feel even more “you.” If you’re ever unsure, our team is here to help with tips, advice, and styling guidance to make sure you feel confident and comfortable.
Can wigs be customised or tailored to my personal style?
Absolutely! Many of our wigs can be adjusted to suit your personal style. While synthetic wigs can’t be coloured, they can be trimmed, styled, and shaped to create a look that feels unique to you. If you’d like
to make any tweaks or need advice, our team is here to help guide you through the process, making sure your wig feels like the best version of you.
What's the difference between a machine wefted and monofilament wig?
Machine wefted wigs are made with a machine, which creates a bit of volume at the root, known as “permatease.” This helps to hide the cap and gives the wig a little extra lift. They’re a great option if you’re looking for a stylish, affordable choice.
Monofilament wigs are a step up in realism. Each strand of hair is hand-tied onto a delicate, skin-like material, giving the appearance of hair growing naturally from the scalp. This careful craftsmanship makes them slightly more expensive, but they often look exceptionally natural.
Both styles have their own charm – it’s all about finding what works best for your needs and preferences!
Can I colour my fibre hair wig?
Fibre hair wigs can’t be dyed or coloured because their synthetic fibres don’t absorb colour like natural hair does. The good news is that these wigs are designed to maintain their vibrant shade without fading – so your chosen colour stays true for as long as possible! If you’re looking for a different style or shade, it might be worth exploring a new wig rather than attempting to colour your current one.
Do I need to wear a wig cap underneath my wig?
Wearing a wig cap is entirely optional, but it can be helpful. It serves two main purposes: to keep any existing hair neatly in place and to create a barrier between your scalp and the wig, ensuring extra comfort.
Do wig caps come in different sizes?
Yes, wig caps do come in various sizes to help you find the most comfortable and secure fit. Most of our wigs are available in a standard size, but we also offer petite and large options in certain collections.
Each cap includes an adjustable strap inside, allowing you to fine-tune the fit for added comfort. If you’re unsure about your size, our fitting guide or customer support team can help you find the perfect match.
I have a long wig – can I wear it up?
Yes, you can style a long wig in an updo! We recommend keeping it loose and gentle to ensure that the wig’s edges and joins remain discreet. Be cautious when adding or removing hair accessories to avoid damaging the fibres. If you’re looking for specific styling tips or guidance, our team is here to help.
How can I secure my wig for a tight fit?
To secure your wig for a snug, comfortable fit, start by adjusting the tabs on either side of the wig cap. Most wigs come with adjustable straps inside the cap, allowing you to customize the fit by tightening or loosening it to suit your head size. For an even more secure hold, you can use wig clips or tape (especially if you’re experiencing hair loss or need extra security). Just remember, the key is comfort – you want it to feel secure, but not too tight to avoid headaches or discomfort.
What's the best way to make sure my wig stays on all day?
To ensure your wig stays put all day long, it’s all about preparation. Start by securing your natural hair underneath with a wig cap, making sure your hair is flat and tidy. This helps create a smooth base for the wig to grip. You can also use a little wig tape or non-slip strips along the edges of the cap for extra security. If you’re planning on being active, try a wig with an adjustable band or choose one with lace fronts for a more secure fit around your hairline. And, of course, adjusting the wig’s fit using the internal straps will ensure it stays in place – no matter what the day throws at you.
I am worried that my wig might blow off in the wind
While it’s very rare for a wig to blow off, we understand your concerns. For extra peace of mind on particularly windy days, consider wearing a stylish hood, hat, or scarf over your wig for added security. This will help you feel confident and comfortable, no matter the weather!
Ordering and Payment
Do you offer discounts for medical hair loss?
If your hair loss is due to a medical condition, you may be eligible for VAT exemption on wigs and hair loss solutions. To take advantage of this, simply let your GP know about your situation and choose the VAT- Free option during checkout. You’ll just need to provide the necessary details, and we’ll take care of the rest. Please note, the VAT exemption applies to wigs only, and not to other products.
How do I know if I qualify?
If you have alopecia, are receiving chemotherapy, are chronically ill, or have a disabling condition, you should be eligible to claim VAT relief on purchases of wigs and services from Sadie C Stone.
What products can I claim against?
VAT relief and refunds can only be applied to purchases of wigs and related services, as per HMRC guidelines. Unfortunately, accessories like scarves, turbans, and caps, as well as aftercare products such as shampoo, conditioner, and styling tools, do not qualify for VAT exemption. If you’re purchasing a wig using a voucher, any items that include VAT should be purchased separately from your qualifying VAT-exempt wig purchase.
How much is VAT relief?
VAT is currently charged at 20% on all hairdressing and beauty products and services. The amount of VAT relief can be a bit confusing, so please remember that it’s the VAT you’d have paid (charged at 20% on the price of your wig) that is deducted on a VAT-exempt wig, not a discount of 20%.

Wig Care and Maintenance
How do I care for my wigs?
To keep your wig looking its best and to extend its lifespan, proper care is essential. Use specially formulated wig shampoo and conditioner and avoid brushing or combing while wet. To maintain its shape and prevent tangling, let your wig air dry on a wig stand. Minimise heat styling and exposure to direct sunlight. Store your wig in a cool, dry place, either on a wig stand or in a box. For expert guidance on maintaining and caring for your wig, Sadie C Stone provides helpful resources and recommendations to ensure your wig stays in great condition.
How do I style wig?
Styling your wig is easy with the right tools and techniques. Start by gently detangling with a wide-tooth comb or specialised wig brush, working from the tips upwards. If you wish to style with heat, use a low setting and always apply a thermal spray to protect the fibres. Get creative with your look by adding hair accessories such as clips, bands, and scarves to achieve different styles. At Sadie C Stone, we provide all the products and guidance you need to confidently style and maintain your wig at home.
How to store wigs
To keep your wig looking its best for as long as possible, store it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. We recommend using a wig stand or poly head to maintain its shape and prevent tangling. Avoid storing in humid environments and be sure to keep your wig out of reach of children and pets.
How do I wash my fibre hair wig and how often?
If you’re wearing your fibre hair wig regularly, we recommend washing it every 7-10 days. To keep your wig in top condition, use T-Range Fibre aftercare products, which are specially formulated for cleaning fibre hair. Always follow the care instructions provided with your wig to ensure it remains looking its best.
My wig has gone frizzy. What does this mean?
Friction frizz is a common issue, especially with medium to long wigs. It happens when the fibres rub against clothing, such as shirt collars, causing the ends to become a bit frizzy. While it’s a natural part of wearing your wig, you can trim the frizzy ends to reduce its appearance. If the frizz becomes more noticeable or difficult to manage, it may be time to consider a new wig. Don’t worry, it’s a normal part of wig wear, and we’re here to help if you need advice or recommendations.
Can I cut my fibre hair wig?
While fibre hair wigs come pre-styled, you can absolutely make them your own by having them thinned or trimmed to suit your preferences. However, please note that the overall style can’t be changed completely. If you’re unsure about adjusting, we recommend seeking professional guidance to ensure the perfect look for you.
Can I use heat on my fibre hair wig?
No, it’s important to avoid using any heated styling tools on your fibre hair wig, as this can damage and burn the fibres. Also, be cautious around heat sources like oven doors or gas heaters, as these can cause the hair to burn as well.
What aftercare products and accessories do I need for my wig?
Proper aftercare is essential to keeping your wig in top shape. For our high-quality synthetic wigs, we recommend using a collapsible wig stand or poly head to store your wig when you’re not wearing it. This helps maintain its shape and allows it to dry properly after washing. Use a wig brush or comb with wide, gentle bristles to detangle without causing any damage.
If you like to style your wig, you can use heat-friendly tools made specifically for synthetic hair to achieve your desired look without harming the fibres. Our range of aftercare products, including conditioning sprays and gentle cleansers, are designed to keep your wig soft, smooth, and looking fresh for longer.
Can I use products like hairspray or gel on my wig?
While it can be tempting to style your wig with products like hairspray or gel, it’s best to avoid traditional styling products made for natural hair, especially if you have a synthetic wig. These products can cause buildup and damage to the fibers over time, leaving your wig looking dull or sticky.
For synthetic wigs, we recommend using wig-specific styling sprays that are designed to maintain the fibers without causing damage. If you have a human hair wig, you can use light hairspray or styling gel sparingly, just like you would with your natural hair, but always keep in mind that less is more to preserve the wig’s longevity.
When in doubt, our expert team at Sadie C Stone can guide you on the best products for your wig’s
material and style!
Aftercare and Support
How long does a fibre hair wig last?
The lifespan of a fibre hair wig really depends on its style and how well it’s taken care of. Short wigs tend to last about 4 to 6 months, while mid-length or bob styles might last around 3 to 4 months. Longer styles typically last between 2 to 3 months. Of course, these are just rough estimates, and the actual lifespan will depend on how often you wear it and how well you maintain it. With the right care, you can keep your wig looking great for as long as possible!
Can wigs cause damage to natural hair?
When worn correctly and cared for properly, wigs should not cause any damage to your natural hair. It’s important to make sure your wig fits well, and that you follow the right care routine to keep both your wig and natural hair in great shape.
Will wearing a wig stop my hair from growing back?
No, wearing a wig will not stop your hair from growing back. However, if you’re using adhesives or glues to secure your wig, it’s a good idea to consult your stylist to ensure you’re using them properly and safely to avoid any potential issues.
Can I sleep in my wig?
While we don’t recommend sleeping in your wig, as it can shorten its lifespan, we understand that sometimes it’s necessary. If you do choose to sleep with it on, we recommend using a silk pillowcase, as it helps reduce friction and keeps your wig in better condition.
Can I swim and exercise in my wig?
We wouldn’t recommend swimming or exercising in your wig. However, if you do choose to, we suggest wearing an older wig to protect your main one. If that’s not an option, it’s important to wash your wig immediately afterward to rinse out any chlorine, saltwater, or sweat. This will help maintain its condition and longevity.
